The valley is about 8 km long. Some call it the Valley of Seven Lakes. There have been numerous discussions about the number of lakes in the valley, but most often, it is said about seven lakes because the rest of the water bodies are, in fact, only lukewarm and dry up. The valley of the Triglav Lakes, even at the time of the first flowering of mountaineering in Slovenia, was one of the most beautiful in the Julian Alps. Koča, near the Triglav lakes, is also located there, one of Slovenia's oldest mountain houses, built in 1880. Near the house is a memorial plaque to Alojzij Knafelac, the creator of the red and white markings, still used today in Slovenia and Croatia.
