The construction of a dam in the 1950s created a lake on the site of the former Vlasina mud. Those floating islands form when the water level of the lake rises. They are a specific feature of Vlasina Lake. The islands are of peat bogs, the product of centuries of decay of peat moss. In other words, quite a special place to visit.

Firstly, this is a rare natural phenomenon. “Devil’s Town” represents unusual stone creations that arose during many years of soil erosion. Its location is on Radan Mountain near Kursumlija in southeastern Serbia. Secondly, in Đavolja Varoš – there are 202 stone formations, from 2 to 15 meters high, with an average diameter of about 1 meter. Thirdly, at the top of the stone pillars are stone blocks, “heads” some of which weigh more than 100 kg. Fourthly, and most importantly, this geomorphological phenomenon is not unique to Serbia but is the largest in Europe. Equally, two more springs are near the stone pillars.
